Follow these seven steps to build a healthy, strong, and beautiful lawn.
Mow weekly but do not cut off more than ⅓ of the grass blade per mowing
Proper watering - Cool season turf grass needs roughly an inch of water per week
Yearly aeration - This reduces compaction, thatch, and allows water and nutrients to be easily accessible by the grass root
Weekly leaf cleanup - Leaves left on the lawn for an extended period of time will thin / kill the grass
Overseed - Best time to overseed is in the fall because the soil temperatures are warm which helps to quickly germinate the seed. The cool fall air temperatures help to eliminate summer heat stress.
Mulch your clippings - This provides more nutrients for your soil. As the nutrients break down the clippings will release nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus back into the soil
Proper mowing height - During the spring months (March, April, and May) mowing height should be 2.5 inches. Once temperatures are consistently above 80 degrees (summer months), raise your mowing height to 3 inches. As temperatures cool going into fall, lower mowing height back down to 2.5 inches.
